Social Media Tip of the Day: Keeping your sanity

Using social media for marketing can slowly drive you insane if you try to “do it all.”

Social media tools can be a godsend for small business owners and entrepreneurs – they are mostly free and can get the word out quickly. But trying to take advantage of everything available in the social media arena “just because it is there” can get you into trouble.
Chances are, as a small business, your resources are limited. So the best approach is to start with a manageable, initial plan and expand once the processes within it are streamlined.
For most businesses, I suggest the following “phase one” plan:
  • A blog (preferably on WordPress.com)
  • A Facebook profile and page
  • A LinkedIn account
  • A Twitter account
Once you have these accounts developed and streamlined, and the process is not driving you insane or toward divorce, think about adding a couple more tools like Flickr, YouTube, and/or SlideShare.

Here is a SlideShare presentation that can help with the initial and subsequent phases of your plan.
